Every now and then, new secret tips are shared amongst the travel hacking world. When they work for Canada, I’ll be sure to let you know. If you find one yourself, feel free to share it with the group!

More Ways to Earn Points

Purchase Cheques: Some credit card companies send out purchase cheques every now and then. We’ll rather than recycle them, you can actually write yourself a cheque! These are purchase cheques, which are NOT the same as cash advance cheques (don’t mix those) and do not carry a fee. This means you can write yourself a cheque, earn the points, and get your money back! WOO!

Canadian Mint: Occasionally, Canadians can buy $5, $10, and $20 coins from the mint, which can then be cashed at the bank. Shipping is free and there is no tax, which means you get FREE points on your cards. This means you could use your credit card to buy, say $3000 worth of coins, cash them at the bank for the $3000 again, and still get the points. No money lost. Just a little bit of time. This could come in handy for those spending limits that net you bonus points with certain credit cards!

IGH Hotel Friends and Family Discount: This is the link and down-low on getting friends and family discounts at hotels such as Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza and Intercontinental. Click here to check it out.
