Best Canadian Travel Credit Cards

Below are a number of cards I recommend as of late 2016. Throughout the year, I’ll update this list and send out deal alerts for new credit cards I approve of.

American Express Gold Rewards Card – The Personal Gold card offers 25,000 points after spending just $1,500 in the first three months of card ownership. This card also has no annual fee for the first year and you can earn up to 2 miles per dollar spent. Points are easily transferrable to a number of different airline and hotel reward programs as well. (note: When you click the link, it will show the Business card. If you look on the right though, you’ll see two other cards. Select the gold one to see this offer).

MBNA Alaska Airlines Card – This card is another AMAZING piece of plastic. It offers 25,000 points instantly after approval. It has a $75 fee, which is totally worth the 25,000 points. You’ll also get an annual $99 companion fare for Alaska Airlines.

American Express Platinum CardThis card has a whopping $699 annual fee BUT comes with 60,000 points (if you apply through my link) after spending just $1,000 in the first three months of card ownership. That’s enough for a free trip to Europe! In addition, you’ll also get a $200 travel statement credit per calendar year, a complimentary Priority Pass membership for free worldwide airport lounge access (valued at $400), and a suite of other incredible VIP features. It’s expensive upfront but it’s worth it, especially if traveling in the next year. (note: When you click the link, it will show the Business card. If you look on the right though, you’ll see two other cards. Select the platinum one to see this offer).

American Express Small Business Gold – If you can spend $5,000 within the first three months, this card comes with 40,000 points (if you apply through my link) and no annual fee for the first year (a value of $250). If you don’t have a small business, just use “your name, inc” and it will usually work.

Chase Marriott CardThere are a number of benefits to having this card. It comes with 50,000 Marriott points after your first purchase plus a free night at a category 1-5 hotel every year if you keep the card. In addition, this is the ONLY CARD IN CANADA with no foreign transaction fees. If you’re traveling for a long time, this card will save you hundreds of dollars on your everyday spending abroad.
